The social call of the President of Estonia

“The good things of our country”

About the campaign:

In 2011 president Ilves asked Estonians to write “100 reasons why Estonia is a good place to live”. Together we gathered over 1500 reasons. This time he turned to the youth - to make them think what’s good about the future of the country.

Goal:

To make children, their parents and teachers take time to realise the good things of Estonia.

The solution:

  • An special app was created on Presidents Facebook page where children could upload their drawings. The wider public could see, like and share the uploaded pictures.
  • President sent letters to all the schools, kindergartens, after-school art groups, orphanages and child centres to promote participation.
  • Every participant received a signed personal thank-you-note from the President (both printed and e-mail versions were available).
  • National news site Delfi.ee highlighted one picture every day on their front page.
  • A nation-wide outdoor campaign featured selected drawings from the site. Both larger cities and smaller villages were represented. The outdoor “art show” lasted for 5 weeks.
  • The President thanked all the participants on the front page of national newspaper Päevaleht on the 24th Feb - The Independence Day.

Results:

  • 11 895 drawings sent
  • 14 600 unique visitors gave 48 661 votes in the app
  • The app was shared 6853 times
  • The app was visited 103 970 times
  • Campaign brought more 23 000 new fans to Presidents FB page

Drawings:

Children emphasised a wide range of things to be proud of: Estonian nature, 4 seasons, high quality of food products, good schools, teachers, doctors, military. Family and friends were mayor themes. Our history, traditions like Song Festival and modern-day highlights like Skype and EstCube were drawn.
